Superbowl a la Tommy

Yesterday's most talked about show was no doubt, Tommy Hilfiger. His Fall 2015 collection, which also doubles as the 30th anniversary of the powerhouse, was an ode to Hilfiger's All-American, iconic brand. With what else other than football and the country's expressive period of the 70s? The runway turned stadium was the perfect setting to the old-school prep attire that was mixed with nouveau Letterman jackets, toggle-coats, and rich knits colored cognac and camel that resulted in a unique and relevant nod to the 70s-prep of Ivy League Friday night lights. 

The models (which included an impressive team of Gigi, Jourdan, Liu, and co.) sported Ali McGraw inspired hair and makeup which added a California touch to the collection. As the collection was inspired by America's favorite pastime, the football lace-up booties are sure to become the next "It" thing. 

Tommy's (field) goal for the collection was to take something from the past and apply it to what works in fashion today. In this case, we see who the new QB is. 

Gimme Ganni

Ganni Pre-Fall 2015

Sub-zero temperatures have hounded the Northeast, and god forbid that if I leave my house with a plethora of layers, I might freeze up like Jack Frost. The idea of simply purchasing clothing for Spring and Summer not only fulfills my hope that warmer weather is near, but also satisfies my sartorial needs.

With bathing suits and linen on my mind, the last thing I'm thinking about is adding another coat to my collection let alone wearing one. But then, the Ganni show during Copenhagen Fashion Week rolls around and I'm weak at the knees, baby.

The Scandi-land favorite knows how to take a girly vibe, and morph it into something crisp and cool. Cobalt blue leather jackets and plaid blanket capes is making me rethink my neutralized mindset, and romantic florals that would give any fairytale princess meets British countryside chick look a run for their money. A 70s influence was of course present at Ganni. The trend from Spring 2015 is still has oil in its engine, so you must take a note from the best of the best (i.e. Ganni) and pull tried and true inspiration from the originals (i.e. Bianca Jagger)

Currently/Coveting

Currently: wearing as many layers as possible and trying to avoid resembling the abominable snowman and frostbite.

Coveting: the whole entire Pre-Fall The Row collection full of luxurious minimalistic goodness served with a side of sequin slides. 

Three claps for MK&A on their ability to convince me that I need (scratch that, must) to embrace the skirt over trousers look, and should never wear any other colors except camel, hunter green, and gray amongst pink and navy- head to toe. 

A Grand Farewell

Whilst finally finding time to sort through a plethora of runway afer runway from Paris, as always one show catches my eye.

As Hermès' artistic director, Christophe Lemaire departs the French house, he says goodbye with great emotion (in the clothes and his own countenance), subtly understated- but with exquisite fashion. It's what Hermès does best.

Look after look, Lemaire created a collection of purity and fluid sharpness. Some could say the collection was lack luster and missing the signature touch that Martin Margiela laid out when he was buliding an asethicic for the brand. But the smaller details, like the rope knotted belt (which kicked the d-ring out of the park), and the silky slitheottes are missed by the naked eye, but make the collection. Inspired by African culture, muted colors of mustard and plum and tribal prints develop a coherence between the Pairsian charm and worldly appeal.

Overall, Christophe Lemaire parted farewell with nothing other than class and grace. Like a true French.

A Nod to the 1930s

Amidst extravagant assembles in Milan, Jil Sander's Rodolfo Paglialunga delivered a simplistic, androgynous collection that stood out this season. Whilst Paglialunga, is one of the industry's newcomers- last time we saw him was at Vionnet few seasons back- this season's collection had everyone talking. His collection did have some fit issues in regards to bunching of the culottes and awkward accidental nods to MC Hammer, but never the less it's simple beauty happened to shine through in the end.

Inspired by the tailored lady of the 1930s- with a slight acknowledge to Roman Holiday- sharp collars and creative layering gave dimension to the anti-Spring palette of camel,navy, and maroon- right up this black cat's alley. Paglialunga, along with the rest of us, is still keeping the schoolgirl trend alive with the help of knee-high socks and such. Other than the clothes themselves, the natural hair and makeup kept the feel modern, and still maintaining a "retro meets today" vibe.

West Coast Kid

Elizabeth & James SS 2015

Having been to the West Coast once in my times, I can say I'm not exactly a seasoned Cali-local. Whilst religiously watching Lauren Conrad and drama unfold courtesy of MTV, I prefer to appreciate the nicer apples in the basket that embody California's culture. 

Surf vibes meet city girl are spot on thanks to the juxtaposition of blazer and mesh, or culottes (they're here to stay!) with a little nothing bathing top. Sleek and sharp with the same sporty undertone that we saw at Lacoste, Mary Kate and Ashley did nothing but impress us with an updated California cool. The designer duo have been spending a majority of their time on the West since opening up their latest The Row store, which is where the surfer influence shined through subtly. Other favorites I fell for were white-washed overalls, floral windbreakers, and striped separates which offered a flirty aspect to the collection. 

Overall? More refined and smart, and less, dare I say, "pop culture kid"?
