4 Things Street Style Taught Me | LFW

ph. by Tommy Ton for style.com

After a frozen tundra met fashion, or mainly known as New York Fashion Week, next on the list is London. I never like to play favorites, but I've always been fond of LFW- let's face it, those brits now how to dress and the shows? Always different and unique, a concept the industry often lacks of.

Yet, some of the magic happens of the runway. Once again, round two of street style school.

From the archives... past street style lessons.

1: Weather permitting, skip the jacket. A borrowed from the boys sweater and thick scarf work double time in your wardrobe when you're just not feeling a jacket.

2: Forget normcore, playful is cool again. Quirky embellishments take a basic navy top coat to another level.

3: A personal favorite of mine from on the blog a few weeks ago. The 70s show is still going strong with suede, and this season's best detail... lace-up.

4: Lastly, remember two key things displayed by Camille and Pernille. Smile once in a while. And the rain stops for no one. No one.

4 Things Street Style Taught Me | NYFW

Time for the 2nd bi-annual street style lessons that fashion month graces upon us. As record freezing temperatures struck New York as the fashion scene was in full swing, it called for creative layering amongst both the attendees and more skillful than creative layering, by the photographers. And may I add, those photogs are the real winners as wind chills dip below zero, and the city streets turn into ice rinks. Like last time, here is Tommy Ton's incredible photography explaining four important lessons one can only learn through prime street style.

1: Textures are the best way to look camera ready in sub zero weather. A fur trimmed hood mixed with mesh? Well, d-uh. The secret? Tights and thermals.

2: The opposite of a texture party? Classics par-tay. They'll never fail you. Boy meets girl sartorial workings won't either. Bonus points for keeping your leather boots spiffy.

3: All you need in life is a camel coat and a dashing smile as displayed by some favorite frenchies. Caroline's bedhead? That's all up to you.

4: Thanks to fashion's leading QB, helmets are better than beanies.

My apologies for the delay on the last installment of this season's "street style school", as I've dubbed it. To close it up we jump to Paris, the city of impeccable style and an incredible charade way of life. Tommy Ton captured every French babe in the perfect life from seasoned Madame Alt to the unknown beauties running from show to show.

School's out. See ya in February

1: In a land of luxe leather handbags that cost a pretty Euro, a monogrammed canvas tote- hit up, L.L. Bean- stands out. Plus, it just looks pretty damn cool against endless it bags.

2: She can do no wrong. The original black cat of the fashion world.

3: Forget plunging necklines and open backs. A mini knit dress and thigh high boots give enough allure to the naked eye.

4: Back to prep school is the way to go: #niftyknot

4 Things Street Style Taught Me | MFW

As we continue on the digital world tour of fashion month, we have stopped the train at Milan, Italy. The best way to describe the energetic fashion capital is in one word: FUN. Characters like Anna dello Russo and other European geniuses step out of the box, which calls for some entertaining street style snaps. If you can take one thing away from Milan, take away that fashion should never be taken too seriously.

3 down... 1 to go....

1: The infamous "Angelina leg" works for both the concrete carpet and red carpet. Switch out the stilettos for sneakers is the key. #check

2: "I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world"....

3: Trick to stand out from the crowd: skip the shirt and go for the blazer.

4: Flowers make the best headpiece. Flower crown making 101 taught by MARNI & Co!

And we are back with round two of street style school with Sloane. This time coming from the coolest of the cool's favorite city spot, London-town. Fashion's golden kids zoomed around in Net-A-Porter cab and proved to us that London Fashion Week forever reigns for taking the je ne sais quoi from good old neighbor France and knocking out a classic English twist.

1: This lovely las proves that a trench coat is a style staple. Rain? Optional.

2: Pernille and Camille are the blonde beauties that walk the walk (and 'gram the 'gram) around the world during fashion week. They also seem to kill it each time....

3: Handbags are the new notebooks. #duh

4: Who said overalls aren't for fashion week? See friends, denim + black = yes

I know what you are thinking.

Psh, fashion week, you learn zero from that. Or on another end, "Sloane, are you really running low on content?"

Well, dare I correct you and say that you are wrong on not one, but two accounts? Simply because I'm feeling a little risky, why not? While clicking through Tommy Ton's latest street style snaps on style.com- which is the second best *single-word dot com* after weather.com, no less- I started to realize a few hidden lessons that were captured over the course of several days.

For the absolute joy of it, I'll be bringing you through fashion month with not only my thoughts on the latest collections, but with several things I've learnt through street style.

After all, school is always in session.

1: Fringe is in. Plus, it is practically breadcrumbs for photographers as evidenced on every fashion site currently active on the internet. My advice- don't get caught in the door. Bye-bye bag!

2: Matching with several of you peers is quite Plastic-esques (even their strides are in sync)

3: Lauren Hutton is beating us all at life. 'Nuff said.

4: Fashion week is the only acceptable time to be looking at your phone whilst walking. I wish you the best if you are wearing heels. Side note- it's the street style stars pose of choice.
