Sandy Island

One day, my mom and I ventured out to Sandy Island- a tiny island right off the coast of Anguilla. Taking a small and rickety boat, we were transported to paradise. My family and I have been visiting  Anguilla for a long time but never have been out to Sandy Island. The day was filled with fresh food and snorkeling through incredible reefs. The two opposite sides of the island are unique; one side is completely rocky with small swells and the other is perfectly still. Being out there without any connection to the outside world makes you realize how indescribably beautiful the world is around you.

Anguilla Photo Diary | Part 1

“There was a magic about the sea. People were drawn to it. People wanted to love by it, swim in it, play in it, look at it. It was a living thing that as as unpredictable as a great stage actor: it could be calm and welcoming, opening its arms to embrace it's audience one moment, but then could explode with its stormy tempers, flinging people around, wanting them out, attacking coastlines, breaking down islands. It had a playful side too, as it enjoyed the crowd, tossed the children about, knocked lilos over, tipped over windsurfers, occasionally gave sailors helping hands; all done with a secret little chuckle” - Cecelia Ahern

Here is the first of many Anguillan posts, showcasing this island's beauty. The crystal clear waters of Barnes and Meads Bay seem to change color as the day goes. Beginning as vibrant blue and then turns into deep purple as the sun melts into the horizon. The waters would change each day from strong 20 ft. waves crashing over the hidden caves of Barnes Bay and the next day would be still as glass. The hidden beauty and mystery of the ocean is always mesmerizing to me. Especially when displayed in Anguilla.

It's very hard to capture the beauty of St.Barths through a camera lens instead of one's own eyes. Sadly, I am returning home to cold bitter weather today but I am full of sunshine from my favorite island. During my stay I tried my best to capture the essence of the island from the beautiful sunsets to clear waters. One of my favorite things about St.Barths is all its hidden treasures. After visiting many times, I always seem to find a new place to eat or a new beach or something as little as a point overlooking the ocean. Being away from your home puts everything in perspective on how special every nook & cranny on this planet is. It also has taught me to step back and appreciate each moment I have.
