Remix

Wearing: Asos button down, Topshop sweater, Asos jeans (distressed by me),
Somewhere Sunday sunglasses via Alekka, River Island loafers (old)

After a winter full of wearing turtlenecks and jeans on repeat, I began to grow tiresome of my established said uniform. I like to think it as a sartorial version of cabin fever? As the core pieces don't exactly change, little things like layering a collared shirt underneath or ditching the boots once makes somewhat of a difference.

My preferred option of spicing up threads, is not threads itself, but sunglasses. If the suns out- scratch that- when it's not raining, you bet a bottom dollar that you'll find sunglasses glued to my face. If I'm not wearing my trusty aviators (or my sailing shades via Kaenon), I will be in mirrored frames. Despite, having other mirrored aviators, these futuristic glasses take the cake. (plus, Back to the Future slash mad scientist vibes are real).

Clear Eyes

Sorry for being missing-in-action (otherwise sailing) this past week. It's been a long one. To break it down; four new bruises, maybe a broken finger, blonder hair, interesting tan lines, seven foot waves, many boats, and one regatta.

That's Laser sailing for you. I have no idea what motivates me to work through waves that break over my head or when my quads are on fire from hiking upwind, but that little spark inside me (wherever the hell it is!) tells me to work harder and better. Despite a sore body and a towering stack of overdue homework, I'm ready to fly home after an eye-opening week on the water.

A change in the tides here (pun fully intended).... This wrap waist playsuit from Zara is the best excuse of dressing up. Fellow black cats rejoice!

One more thing.

The ideal way to sum up this week is quoting my favorite (errr.. fictional) sports team. the Dillion Panthers.

Café Minerva

Sunglasses: Ray-Ban, Rings: Madewell & Asos

New York City is known for several things, including leaving you wondering where all your cash went in a span of a day and its zero shortage of coffee shops. While the first of the two is meant for another time and day, let's focus on the latter.

Alexandra and I met over the weekend at Café Minerva in the West Village. The village is a hub of topnotch coffee shops, and me not being anything close to a coffee & co. extraordinaire fall hard and fast for any new place that meets my standards. I also don't drink coffee, but hey when in Rome (errr... New York City?). Not to mention, scoring a window seat means prime people watching, because I know you all consider that.

Most definitely adding Café Minerva to my favorites list. On that topic, I have a mass travel guide in the works, plus one focusing specially on New York City. Please leave any and all comments below or shoot me an email regarding what you'll like to see included in the guide. As always, you speak and I listen.

2014 | Under 500 Words

As said in Monday's post, to even think that we are few days away from a new year, leaves me wondering where the hell 2014 went! Of course I can get all nostalgic, and blab on about how much I've grown this year and ya know, the cliche shebang that comes along with a new year.

However, it is all true. Every year we grow and change, learn new things, and become different people. Much has occurred over the past year that leave me forever and eternally grateful. I could tell you right now that I am not the same I was 365 days ago- lord, I hope not- but you get my gist. From this year I'm able to pinpoint moments where the universe either slapped me in the face or gave a pat on the back- the latter is more appreciated. We each deal with a fair amount of triumph, struggle, heartbreak, and those moments that you simply cannot put into words. Those moments which remind us how incredible life is. They are able to put a smile on your face that is impossible to wipe off or leave you with butterflies in your stomach for too long.

I've learned that the world works in odd ways and that there are times when you feel like everything went downhill reallll fast (hey, I've been there), but things can change in an instant. When thinking about what my resolutions are for the new year, I noticed that they were connected with other things (sailing, school, blogging..... and boys (;). And whilst those are all fine, I think we sometimes forget about ourselves. To become a better you, to live your life, to follow your dreams... To even add more clicheness to this post, I think it's nice to view our life similarly to a novel and every year is a chapter that we can write on our own. There is no ghostwriters (eye-balling you Kardashians), nor spellcheck, but 100% you.

Perhaps this year wasn't the best, but you always have a chance to make the next read-worthy. On that note, I have some amazing things on the calendar for 2015- both for this digital universe and for myself. [insert fist emoji]

With that, I leave you with with my all-time favorite quote from Fitzgerald, "I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again".

Happy New Year.

Camel Affair

Wearing: Zara coat, T by Alexander Wang- sold out, similar (Friday's look), Club Monaco leggings (from last year, but just bought these), Stan Smith sneakers, Jules Smith choker (favorite piece)

Shh!! I'm cheating on gray with camel. Cue a color war, and I'm going neutral.

I couldn't help myself with the puns, guyysss...

Putting my hysterically funny self aside, this outfit is one of the two assembles I tend to wear the most. Well, I wouldn't necessarily count my XL sweatshirt and sailing sweats a "fashion forward" assemble, but just role with me here. The awkward limbo period between seasons (side note: it was snowing yesterday, hi winter) calls for formulaic dressing of t-shirts and basics; hence here.

// And while I have your undying attention, holiday shopping? //

Second Time Around

Last time I took a spin in overalls it was nearing 90 degrees and the rule of the time was: less fabric; the better. I was also wearing short overalls that slightly resembled the 90s child "play time" outfit of choice. In that summer post, I shared my thoughts on how I've warmed up to overalls and attempting to avoid farmer status. And you can see it has gone quite well...

Tomorrow's high is 40 degrees and well, shorts don't exactly fly anymore. With winter right around the corner- throwing shade to Mother Nature-bundling up is the normal for the next five months. Enough of me blabbering on about the weather- hit up weather.com for the latest updates on Polar Vortexes and all that jazz.

Returning to the topic of seeking overalls, I've come to find a great long pair that are the answer to all my farmer meets runway aspirations. With the help of sand paper and a pair of scissors, a little distressing roughed them up to my liking. If you're anything like me the sight DIYs scares you away but after distressing two pairs of jeans, it is much easier than imagined. Poke some holes in the knee, a little sand paper here and there, fray the ends... easy peasy. I would recommend not splurging on overalls unless you plan on wearing them everyday.

To sum up today's post: 1) It's beginning to get very cold. 2) Second try with overalls was a success.

In Wonderland

With Halloween- my least favorite holiday of them 'em all- sneaking up on us, why not title today's post to one of the best characters/costumes, Alice in Wonderland? Come to think of it, it is slightly more of a mash up of Dorothy from Oz and Alice... there is even some schoolgirl vibes in there. But like always, just go with the flow.

Even though I'll be spending my Halloween at home watching The Shining with a side of zero  FOMO, I'll still be wearing this could-be costume in real life. Paired with witchy boots- embrace the pointed toe!- we avoid getting into actual costume territory. Now that could be scary sight for the eyes.

The Road

Yesterday, I did the task that summer lovers despise- sorting away the sandals, beach attire, and the general pieces that file under "summer". For me, a sweater fanatic, it was a joyous moment as my knits and lightweight jackets are now proudly hanging on my clothing rack. *Sigh*, I love the changing of the seasons.

A few weeks ago, I was trying to get as much wear in my favorite Topshop slides- which, may I add, saved my poor feet this summer- and those important transition pieces that save your a** during those days that the weather is feeling quite bipolar. So without further ado, join me on the road of odd layering and beautiful fall days ahead.

The Great View

Wearing: Alexis top, J.Crew skirt, Belle by Sigerson Morrison sandals, Saint Laurent bag

I was feeling generous and decided to give you all another healthy helping of good old New York City in what other than black and white. Quite a fine one she is, don't you agree? Or I might just be downright obsessed with these photos.

On the other end, as you are reading this I am in the complete opposite end of the concrete jungle spectrum. You guessed it.

The ocean blue.

Time to set sail to Buzzards Bay for the 2014 Vineyard Race. A sunrise/moonrise instagram will be coming your way soon enough. 'Laters gators.
