The calendar might say Monday, but I'm still in a weekend mindset and so is my wardrobe. During January, my efforts of dressing are lowered to kitten heel level, so you can only imagine that I've created a uniform for winter. Similar to last year's go to, but a little more diverse in that.

Turtleneck sweaters, black jeans, and boots.

But after wearing the same variation of a look for over a month, it is nice to shake things up a little that department. That's where textures come to play. Leather legs, denim jacket, suede shoes (not the most practical with snow in the picture) become the magic potion when in an all-black rut.

So, if next Monday morning (or tomorrow), you happen to face the hardships of the forever lingering question "what to wear", make sure you file away this post.

Florals | Winter

Last time I wore this dress, it was hot and humid and I can report to you from cocooned blankets that I would trade that for anything- slightly an exaggerated statement, but you get my gist. Like always, the art of layering is a work in progress. Because hey, we all can't wake up one day and a create a masterpiece like Da Vinci.

Part of my resolutions was to only buy pieces that I love, which implies that shopping my closet will become a more regular occurrence under my roof. Instead of pushing those summertime dresses and skirts to the back of the closet, pop on a popover (#punnyfunny), amongst other layering essentials, and hit the concrete. The somewhat annoying and eye-roll inducing phrase, a bang for your buck, has become a reality.

Colorful Gestures

Aye, some proper apologies are due around this neck of the woods. Excuse my sparse posting from last week- winter break officially kicked in and with Christmas three days away, the festivities kicked in as well.

For keeping warm, as of late, I've been turning to XXL scarfs that cocoon my face. You can forgo the puffer jacket when a thick cashmere scarf is in the picture. Along with this colorful option, a camel cooconer is not only more versatile but also on point with the "whats what" at the moment.

I'll be switching between the two all winter long, but this pop o' purple? 'Tis the day to color! (as the rest of my outfit is monotoned.... baby steps, baby steps)

#dwcxmas

As the Northeast gets whacked with another storm this week- which means snow- I feel like it is socially-acceptable to finally bust out the holiday tunes, let your Clark Griswold-esque holiday freak flag fly AND be "the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse... that Santa has ever seen".

Whatever floats your boat.

As my calendar quickly fills up with holiday events... and, um, er, finals.... I'm all about holiday dressing that is easy and doesn't make me look like a Christmas tree.  Instead you can find me in whole lotta blackwatch, velvet, cashmere, and wool coats; one at a time or all at once. Now, I've teamed up with my favorite babes.... Caroline, Frannie, Sammy, and Gracey to bring you a #dwcxmas- follow on Insta for more. Be sure to hop and skip on over to each blog for their own take on holiday dressing.

That is all for now. This self-proclaimed holiday fanatic has some studying to do.

Trot to Turkey

Thanksgiving is this week. And Christmas is in about month.
Let that sink in for a minute... wasn't just September? Time flies when you're having fun, eh?

As for when Thursday rolls around, this mini plaid skirt won't exactly cut it, considering food is a main factor of the day- and a intense game of Clue. Whilst this sweater- which also has a makeshift hood- is #1 winner. Or a jumpsuit. Perhaps a onesie? (#yolo?)

Any who, returning to the schoolgirl look once again.

Camel Affair

Wearing: Zara coat, T by Alexander Wang- sold out, similar (Friday's look), Club Monaco leggings (from last year, but just bought these), Stan Smith sneakers, Jules Smith choker (favorite piece)

Shh!! I'm cheating on gray with camel. Cue a color war, and I'm going neutral.

I couldn't help myself with the puns, guyysss...

Putting my hysterically funny self aside, this outfit is one of the two assembles I tend to wear the most. Well, I wouldn't necessarily count my XL sweatshirt and sailing sweats a "fashion forward" assemble, but just role with me here. The awkward limbo period between seasons (side note: it was snowing yesterday, hi winter) calls for formulaic dressing of t-shirts and basics; hence here.

At First Sight

#currentlytrending: An affinity for an at the knee or below.

After a little late night shopping at the great z to a-r-a, this black mesh skirt showed up at my doorstep. To my luck, it was  love at first sight, but hey, we all can't win at life... it was a size too big. Don't get used to this skirt thing though, my poor pale legs have already resorted to fleece lined tights and worn in denim.

As I was going for a high waisted skirt to amp up my woolly knits and bring a little something something into my wardrobe... le sigh, life is full of twist and turns.  In a result, I ended up with a longer hemline and a love at first sight with another one of the Z's best- this sweater.

Talk about a match made in retail heaven.

On another random note, sporting a sartorial color scheme of red and black made me think of vampires. Yes, your waking (or sleepy) eyes read that correctly. Halloween has come and past, and and the holidays are upon us, yet the classic color combination with forever be tied with gothic vampires.

Bless my soul.

Despite my vampire color connections and sleep-deprived, movie-watching eyes (that made an appearance here), this outfit is filed under: wear more often.

Maybe late night shopping is a good thing.... (ha!)
