Back in Benz

In the midst of an extensive closet clean-out, my mom came across this Chris Benz jacket from 2009  (fun fact, I actually met the designer around the same time). Back then, I used to sport the jacket with pajamas while playing in my mom's closet. My sartorial manner began quite early.

The faded mint color and militaristic details makes this jacket a new favorite. I'm still a massive fan of the designer- his innovative eye always stands out each and every season. Teamed up with lacy espadrilles (ya know to make up for the lacking femininity) and my tried and true lbd- the jacket stands out. Not to mention my make shift hardware of this choker and an Asha by Adm charm, creates a somewhat brand new piece.

Old treasures become new favorites.... or something along the lines of that. You get my drift.

Silly little me, I just came across these long lost photos from Anguilla.... let's take a trip back.

In my past life, I swear I was a hippie. From my fondness of Woodstock-esque music to the self expressive vibes of the 70s, I am always drawn to anything that emulates those vibes. 

This Reformation dress has cutouts, mock neck, and it's covered in peace signs- what more could I ask for? Despite the fact that I can't go back in time, I will dress like I can- of course, with a modern twist.

How in the world is it November?! October flew by- my birthday feels like ages ago. I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited for this month. It's the beginning of the holiday season (53 days 'till Christmas!) and the weather becomes absolutely perfect. Above I'm sharing everything I'm loving this month. Holiday candles are burning in my room- the new Diptyque ones are my favorite! I've been wearing a darker lip more than normal. For someone who only wears lip balm, it's quite different. I am slowly changing up my room- needlepoint pillows add character and cheekiness to any room. Blair Eadie launched her Bauble Bar collection earlier this week- this happy necklace is a favorite piece of mine! Matching crop tops and skirts are my new favorite combo- a neutral color like grey makes them chic not trashy. Cute beanies are perfect for staying warm and cute (the sparkle adds a nice touch). NYFW

Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone. This year, I followed along via social media and corals + cognacs hilarious behind the scenes recaps. On the runway, I had some clear favorites- classic icons like Oscar de la Renta and DKNY and newer brands: Mara Hoffman, Clover Canyon and more. There were definitely some clear trends for Spring 2014 like the crop tops, pastels, and your expected "Spring" items. I'm sharing with you some of my top picks from this year and my favorite trends.

1: Ever so classic white is re-invented again by Oscar and Tory. Both of these looks are drop dead gorgeous. Can we just talk about the ODLR dress and that Tory Burch jacket!?

2: Romantic is a revolving trend that seems to come up quite often and here it is again. Zac Posen and Rachel Zoe both show romantic styles this year with lace, silk, and soft blush tones.

3: For spring, bold and graphic prints are back. Print masters, Clover Canyon showed some stunning prints for the upcoming season- like the dress above! Mara Hoffman, who also knows how to rock prints, sent bold maxis down the runway.

4: Sporty-Chic is one of my fave trends. (see my post on baseball hats) DKNY showed her signature colorful sporty chic look with an extra bit of the cool factor- look at this showstopping dress! Milly was one of my favorite shows. I love all the mesh details but it still looks put together and fresh.

Grunge As It Gets

I was not one to jump on the punk/grunge trend- and I'm still not 100% committed. But, after I found this plaid skirt from Asos, I decided that a little punk couldn't hurt. Surprisingly, the plaid skirt is very versatile; it works with navy, black, blue... you get my point. Here, I'm wearing it with a simple t-shirt and grey loafers. To transition the outfit into Fall one could add a jacket, tights, and ankle boots. Let me know if you are dipping into the "grunge" trend at all or if you are keeping your distance.

I was in the Tory Burch Greenwich boutique a few days ago to shop their Labor Day sale and came across this amazing printed sweater. It has beetles on it! To be honest, it was love at first sight for me. I don't think the sweater is necessarily my style, but mixing it up is always good! I was doing a little bit of Fall shopping at Madewell and J.Crew and came across this simple a-line  skirt. It's a chic staple piece that can be worn all year round in many different ways. If you have been reading fashion blogs this past Spring and Summer, you may have seen the "trend" black and white everywhere. Personally, I don't think black and white is a trend, but instead a simple and chic color combo. I decided to wear the B&W look with a white blouse and throw in fun accessories for a not so basic look.

I mentioned before how much I wanted to save this dress for France but I still gave in to wearing it back home. Even though I already wore the dress, I couldn't wait to wear it in Provence as well. The simple lace has a hidden drama in it that definitely came out in Crillon le Brave. Today is my last day in Provence then I am heading back home. Happy Wednesday! Thank you for all the sweet comments about my hair! (: These pictures were supposed to go up yesterday but I was sailing all day and my computer has been acting out- if you follow me on Twitter, you will hear about my #techproblems. 

 I haven't gotten much wear out of this Eight Sixty dress since I bought it last winter. The loud print is quite hard to pull off and I never knew how to style it. Over the weekend, I wore it with neutral heels- I love the gold detailing- and minimal accessories. I think the key to rocking a bold print is to keep everything else very simple! As I've mentioned before, I have been having fun with my makeup and hair recently. I tend to keep my makeup very natural and light. During the summer, I don't wear that much because I'm either sailing, swimming, or doing something that involves water. To add a pop to my basic look, I went with a pink lip. Definitely a change for someone who only wears lip balm but it's fun to play around with color!

The beginning of Summer and end of the school year means there is tons of events; graduations, parties, etc... Yesterday, for my prize day I wore a gorgeous RVN dress- here is the tank version. Last week, I attended a family friend's graduation, wearing this Alice and Olivia dress. All of A&O's summer dresses are perfect for summery events. See below for more Alice and Olivia picks!

In my last post, I mentioned about experimenting with my hair more. This dutch braid is super easy to do. I am thinking about doing a hair tutorial on a favorite style of mine- let me know if you would like that!

Prints & Faces

Day one is Anguilla is complete! The weather is beyond wonderful! My family and I are staying at the Viceroy. The amazing resort was decorated by Kelly Wearstler. The modern and sleek decor inspired this look. I stepped out of my comfort zone a little bit with this skirt. The print with the cool colors is unique and different looking. Stay tuned for more pictures soon!
