It's An Art

When people say layering is an art, they are not joking.

Due to living on the (North)East Coast,  I'll say that I've become quite the skilled one when it comes to dressing in a somewhat put together fashion as soon as the temperatures drop under 34 degrees.

But, then you go to Vermont and it all turns into, well, lies. All of it. Hey, if you give me enough sailing gear, and I will be able stay warm enough to sail in the dead of January (the magic hiking pants and thermals). But when it comes to looking presentable in a place like Vermont... It is a challenge.

Dear ol' Green Mountain State welcomed us with big open arms of 2 degrees. And you might be wondering, what do you wear when it is 2? Fleece tights under leggings. A thermal under a sweater. Fleece socks, gloves, and hat (miss the memo on that). And a boatload of courage.

5 weeks & counting 'till Florida....

Number One

Since beginning my turtleneck obsession last winter, I've racked up quite a collection. I've done a video on how to wear it three different ways and have sported my favorite cold weather piece numerous times, so it's quite obvious why this piece is number one in my sartorial winter handbook. Despite many purchases, I just recently found the best turtleneck sweater (plus, it was on sale). I wore it to dinner Sunday night, all day whilst road tripping up to Vermont, and then once again to dinner. Urban Outfitters always pulls out some great pieces (like these sweats which I'm wearing). Stay tuned for a proper outfit post, but until then enjoy some Instagrams.

Slalom Chic

As much I love the summer and all its glory, I cannot deny my love for some snow-covered slopes either out West or up north. The fam-bam and I will be venturing up to Stowe for the week for some of the best skiing in the East.

Fashion wise: a girl can only dream to look like that on the mountain.

Après-ski is a different story though, as I've racked up quite a collection of mountainside appropriate sweaters.

3 Turtlenecks, 3 Ways :: Video

Excitement levels for today's post... pretty damn high, might I say.

One of my goals for 2014 was to incorporate lots of video content into the blog. Well, I kinda failed at that whole "lots of" aspect, as in two videos isn't exactly a whooping lot.

I tried, I swear. There was going to be some sailing content, but that sunk- literally- so long GoPro, and some travel snippets, but alas, that has disappeared into a deep dark hole known as my computer.

On the bright side, we have a new video. As you could tell, turtlenecks are one of my cold-weather essentials. They can be worn in a street style ready fashion, or in my case, under two Patagonia fleeces when getting your Christmas tree- 20 days!

Here are the three players (click to the links, to see other ways to wear 'em):
big and red, #camelcrew, and your classic navy lady killer.

A few cashmere sweaters will also save your cold hearted self in the depths of winter, and like the playsuit, a turtleneck is easy as one-two-three.

Turtlenecks for one, turtlenecks for all.

Winter Beach

Irish knit, Mango coat, James Jeans, Converse, DKNY tights (worn under jeans),

On Sunday morning, we ventured out quite early to the beach. I have explained my love for beaches during the Winter and this was a perfect example of why I love it. Bundled up in thick knits and warm layers, we escaped into a less snowy winter. The water was eerily still and the sun warmed our faces. Sometimes my friends, winter isn't so bad after all.

Joie pants (old), BLK Denim sweatshirt, Asos coat, Alice & Olivia heels (similar)
 AV Max cuff, Converse sneaks

Thank you for the positive response on last week's post about quality over quantity. A quick note regarding quality- I am having some trouble when it comes to my photos so stay with me while I get it all sorted out. If you or anyone you know is a photography wiz, please email me.

To say the least, I am pretty much done with Winter. Over the weekend I wore a pair of white lace pants that I picked up last spring from Joie. To stay warm, I layered up with a grey sweatshirt (I have worn it everyday for the past week) and a oversized scarf. Shed the extra layers and add heels when it's time to dress up a bit.

Polar Blues

Whoever said that you can't wear summer pieces in the middle of winter was very very wrong. I purchased these rag & bone jeans this previous summer on super sale at Intermix. They are a little bit edgier than basic white because of the bleached fabric and zippers at the ankles- which are perfect for showing off killer heels. Of course I am wearing head-to-toe blue again. A chunky sweater is one stop layering and ideal on Winter days. My rule on knits- the thicker, the better especially during polar vortexes.

Blue Crush

The Reformation sweater | Vintage jeans (similar) | Dolce Vita coat (another print) | Joie loafers

If it isn't obvious, I sort of love blue- in any shade, shape or form. I picked up this Reformation turtleneck sweater during Black Friday sales- it's one of the coziest sweaters I own. The sweater isn't super snug so I love to layer it over longer tees and under jackets. Since this whole outfit is monochromatic, it's fair to say that I have a blue crush (;

Hello Winter | Insta Snaps

all photos via Instagram

Winter has officially arrived in New England. Playing in the snow will never get old and bundling up to just go to the car won't either. Yesterday, I went cross country skiing in the backyard- it was tons of fun but hard work! I can't wait to get back on the actual mountain shortly. Follow along on Instagram for snowy snaps. Shop cozy items for braving the chill below:

Winter Wonderland

J.Crew coat | Unknown scarf (similar) | Joie jeans | Sperry Top Sider x J.Crew boots (old)

I love snow- correction, I love freshly fallen snow. After it gets all muddy and gross, let it rain or someone please magically transport me to a warmer climate. The backyard looked so pretty with just layers of white and tons of birds in the trees. These Sperry boots (this year's version) are my favorite thing to wear on snow days but whilst inside I never take off these J.Crew socks

Rule Breaker

Happy December everyone- not to mention Cyber Monday. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving full of food, family, and cheer. There are a couple of items that I love to wear- turtlenecks, oversized scarfs, and white jeans. Today's post is quite the rule breaker- mixing navy and black and white jeans. But it's fashion and rules are meant to be broken. Winter white is refreshing to wear and it most definitely lightens up an outfit that has a darker palette.

This week is my favorite week ever. It's totally okay to start playing Christmas music, eat all the food that you want, and enjoy the beginning of the holiday festivities. On the other hand, it is becoming very cold, hence the tights I'm sporting in today's post. (they're fleece lined) I don't mind the cold that much because it just means cozy layers galore. This outfit has become a favorite of mine; high neck top and a printed skirt. It is a little dressy but still is easy and comfortable. Shop similar options of my favorite pieces below. I would love to know what your plans are this holiday week.

Winter Beauty Must-Haves

I love Winter- skiing, the snow, snow days- but the season can seriously damage your hair, and skin. Hair becomes unruly and dry, and your skin is stripped of moisture. I really amp up my routines during the colder months, it truly makes a difference. I swear by the products I've included below. What are you favorite Winter must-haves? Also, be sure to check out my favorite Resort picks to see what I'll be wearing when I escape the cold.

Keep on Sailing,
Sloane

It Girl: Lauren and Marika

Today, I am featuring the lovely girls of Golden White Decor, Lauren and Marika! These two ladies are one of my favorite blogging duos. Their style is girly, whimsy, and a touch of the Cali-Girl style. Their blog is always a pick me up for me. Stunning pictures, uplifting quotes, and super fun looks is what Lauren and Marika fill their blog with. The best friends, also include amazing interior design posts, full of bright colors, and beautiful prints. I will always head to Golden White Decor, when I am in need of inspiration (or a fab, sparkly skirt !)
